The City of Florence is crisscrossed by the floodplain from the Arkansas River as well as tributaries creeks such as Coal and Oak Creek. Though generally dry, Florence has experienced period storm-related flooding in the past, and as such, the City participates in the National Floodplain Management Program and regulates all developments in floodplains within its city boundaries by ordinance.
